A Home For Every Family
The family that lives in a home looks different in every household. Homes host families of multiple generations, newlyweds, young families, roommates and friends, and individuals. For every kind of family, there are different needs, different desires, and different priorities. Consequently, the way that the home is used will look different for practically every family unit.
These differences are exemplified by the diversity of cultures of potential residents, whether the family lives in a rural or urban area, and how the family interacts with their surrounding community. A typical home in the USA, specifically Texas, will look different, be used differently, and likely be inhabited by a different group of people than a home in India. Homes in India accommodate 4.3-4.8 people on average in 60-65 square feet per person (Thakur, 2008); and most often include multiple generations. In comparison, Texas households have 2.84 people on average (Statista, 2019) and the Texas Administrative Code requires at least 80 square feet for single occupancy bedrooms alone. That's a difference of approximately 6 people for every square foot of living space. The amount of space 'necessary' is just one example of how these two homes would be used radically differently.
